HEATHER WATSON was knocked out of the Aegon International women's singles in Eastbourne this afternoon.
The 20-year-old Sarnian lost to seventh seed Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (5), 6-1 in the second round on centre court at Devonshire Park.
After losing her opening service game, Watson put up an excellent fight against the world No. 21 in the first set, taking it to a tie-break before losing it narrowly 7-5.
However, Safarova's class and powerful hitting shone through in the second set as she won six straight games after Watson had broken in the first game.
