Le Ber scrapes through battle of last two champs

THE last two winners of the Elliott Men's Singles went head to head in the second round of this season's British Isles qualifier.

Defending champion Matt Le Ber faced Daniel de la Mare, the 2010 winner, at the Corbet Field with the former taking singles on the first two ends before de la Mare found his length on the next three including a full-house on the third.

A fascinating battle saw the pair exchanging the lead throughout with de la Mare starting to find the jack a little too often for his opponent's liking, although Le Ber produced his familiar accurate firing shots to remove the offending woods.

That continued to test de la Mare's patience, but he kept to the draw.
