IN HER first Olympic distance race of the season, Gail King won a bronze medal in the Age Group British National Triathlon Championships, held at Ellesmere, Shropshire, last weekend.

In a competitive field, as it also doubled as a World Championship qualifier, she came 17th overall out of 133 female competitors, in 2hr 14min. 39sec. over a course she knows well having competed there twice before.

An excellent swim took her out of the water first in her wave and second fastest overall.

Although she lost one place on the bike section, which was made more difficult by a torrential downpour, she completed the 40km bike section inside 70 minutes to give her a good platform for the final 10km run.
