AN IMPRESSIVE last-wicket partnership proved decisive as Guernsey succumbed to the Netherlands in the first match of their ICC Challenge Series at Port Soif.

Reeling somewhat at 154 for nine in their quest to set a winning total batting first, the Dutch pair of Saqib Zulfiqar (22 not out) and Reinen Kalis (18) added 42 more to the total.

That ensured a below-par total became a decent target as they finished on 196, being bowled out with three balls of the innings remaining.

It proved too many for Guernsey to chase, finishing 59 short as they were skittled for 137 inside of 41 overs, a dramatic collapse bringing about the end.

But in fairness, the Sarnians had done well to still be in the game by that point on a day where both bowling attacks seriously impressed in the first of a three-match series.
