AN EXCELLENT all-round display saw Guernsey's under-17s claim a notable scalp in defeating the Netherlands by 48 runs yesterday at the KGV.
Having seen the Dutch come out on top in the first 50-over contest less than 24 hours' earlier, the Sarnians were looking to hit back and were in control from the outset, batting patiently in order to set up an imposing total.
The opening pair of Lucas Barker and Toby Belton moved onto 28 from the opening 10 overs and they had put 40 on the board by the time Belton fell for 15, off the bowling of Asad Saleemi.
That did not deter Barker, who continued to bat well and after adding a partnership of 28 with Josh Kirk (8), then put on a decisive stand with fellow in-form batsman Ollie Nightingale.
