DESPITE being somewhat overshadowed by the alleged theft and ignominious end of the aquarium's favourite resident, this year's Bailiwick Bass Open Challenge proved to be a great success.

Entries totalled 210 anglers, well up on last year, and plenty of legitimate bass were put to the scales in the car park of event sponsor Tackledirect.

The shore section was won by Paul Clark with an impressive 10lb 3oz 9dr specimen caught on a free-lined live 'green' sandeel, a fish he backed up with another of 5lb 6oz 4dr from the kayak making him the winner of that section too.

Visiting angler Duncan Green, from the UK, caught two fish over 8lb plugging from the shore to take both second and third places.
