WINNING on the famous grass courts of Wimbledon is becoming a habit for Heather Watson as she cruised through in the Olympics yesterday.

Making her London 2012 bow in the singles, having already departed the doubles, the 20-year-old Guernsey girl crushed Silvia Soler Espinosa 6-2, 6-2 in the first round.

The victory was secured in just 69min., a double-break in each set overwhelming the Spaniard, who also saw 27 Watson winners and seven aces fly past her.

'It was great, I've got my first Olympic win under my belt,' said a delighted Watson. 'The atmosphere was amazing. It's very different to Wimbledon – the crowd were a lot louder.'

Watson's success over Soler Espinosa, who is ranked four places higher at world number 63 than the Sarnian, sets up a last-32 encounter today with Maria Kirilenko of Russia.
