HAVING been forced to wait and wait, an emotional Heather Watson bowed out of her debut Olympics at London 2012 yesterday after being comprehensively beaten by Maria Kirilenko in the second round of singles.

The 20-year-old Sarnian started off confidently in her first two service games against the world number 15, but once Kirilenko broke to make it 3-2, the Russian never looked back and eventually secured the victory 6-3, 6-2.

'It hurts that I've lost because this is my first Olympics,' Watson said afterwards. 'I feel just disappointed, the support was amazing. I feel like I kind of let everyone down as well. I gave it my all.'

The Games are now over for Watson, with Andy Murray and Laura Robson the only remaining Brits in the tennis draws. Murray remains on course in the singles, but it is the inclusion of Robson as his mixed doubles partner that has attracted attention, after the entrants and draw for that event were confirmed yesterday.

'I'm upset that I did not get picked, but there's not much I can do,' said Watson.
