IT HAD been coming.
Twice in recent weeks Aimee Ponte had equalled the women's course record at L'Ancresse with two 69s, matching the mark set by Anna-Karin Salmen of Aland in the 2003 Island Games and in the process shooting the best score ever by a local female golfer.
But on Tuesday, the 16-year-old Channel Islands champion surpassed herself as she returned a brilliant gross 68 in the first round of the Royal Guernsey Ladies' Club Championship to take the record outright.
Yet, in typical golfer fashion, she immediately admitted that she left some shots out on the course.
'To be honest, it might sound silly, but with the amount of putts I missed, it was quite frustrating,' Ponte said yesterday.
