THE underdogs showed their fighting spirit to come through a real nail-biter in the Channel Islands final of the Hampshire Sevens.

La Grande Mare captain Chris Walker admitted yesterday that the Royal Jersey had seemed 'quite stunned' to lose to his side on home soil at Grouville on Sunday and even his own players were in a state of shock afterwards.

'We're over the moon,' Walker said.

'On the way back we were all sat on the ferry a bit in disbelief that we managed to do it.'

His team put Walker through the proverbial wringer as they opened up a remarkable 3-0 lead before being pegged back to 3-3, leaving the match result riding on the final rubber out on the course.
