MATT LE BER won his fourth Elliott Men's singles title on Saturday, but had to come through a nail-biter to retain the trophy.
On the opening day of the Bowls Guernsey Finals weekend played at Vale Rec's Corbet Field green, he beat six times winner Gary Pitschou in a 27-end thriller.
Pitschou, not fazed by Le Ber's now usual tactic of firing to smash apart any head built up against him, kept his cool and was 6-4 ahead at 10 ends.
Then a triple put Le Ber ahead by one shot and he used his tremendous drawing ability to build an advantage of five to lead 18-13 by the 21st but Pitschou clawed back magnificently to level things by the 26th.
