WHEN Matt Buckley was playing island volleyball he had team-mates to help him out if he was feeling a bit nervous on the big occasion.

On Sunday afternoon at La Grande Mare he arrived at the first tee with a handy three-shot lead at the halfway point of the La Grande Mare Club men's championship and he was facing pressure unlike he's probably ever previously experienced in sport.

Not only did he have his biggest rivals, Wasif Anees and Nigel Garrard, there alongside as playing partners in the final group out to remind him the job was only half done, but somewhere out on the scenic woodland course, Dave Jeffery was lurking.

Jeffery came into the tournament having won four successive club scratch titles, but like many others he hit trouble in Saturday's high winds.
