Two-man teams, instead of three at the top level, has been reintroduced mainly to provide the best players with more competition.
They will also meet just twice compared to four times last season and, in another significant change, games will be played to the ITTF Pro Tour standard length, which is best of seven sets.
The last time this happened was back in the 2004-05 season when the Lions C pairing of Scott Romeril and Jez Powell took the honours.
The duo are back together this season bidding to clinch the Division One crown along with eight other teams.
