GH SMIT was delighted to cap off a fine season by being crowned as Guernsey's cricketer of the year at the GCB's awards night at St Pierre Park Hotel.

The 37-year-old big-hitting opening batter won the weekend double with Argylls in 2012, while also playing some destructive innings for St Pierre in the Evening League.

But, as he explained, it was one innings that stood out above all others for him in a run-laden summer for the South African-born island star.

'Cobo are the side that I always want to score runs against. That is the big game in the season and to knock them out was brilliant.'
