FIVE wins out of eight in the closing relays saw Guernsey steal the Governor's Cup back in dramatic fashion at St Sampson's High.

The home team trailed the visitors by five going into the second batch of relays of a frenetic afternoon's action, but with four points for a win and only one for second place, Guernsey finished three ahead in the final calculations.

It helped the Sarnians' cause that Jersey robbed themselves of two points with disqualifications in the first two of those final relays.

In each race they were second to touch, but without the DQs they would have been just a point adrift at the end of the 50th and final event won by the men's 200 freestyle relay squad of Miles Munro, Alexander Beaton, Tom Girard and Tom Hollingsworth, joint captain alongside Victoria Parfit.

'We thought it would be close,' said the girls' captain after receiving the trophy alongside Hollingsworth.
