CASUALS triumphed in the battle of the previously unbeaten hockey top two at a damp Footes Lane on Saturday.

The scoreline might suggest a thriller, but this was a thoroughly deserved victory for the team in black – their third in as many matches this season.

Colombians, who were missing some key personnel in island captain Matt Watson, Tim Ravenscroft and Jonny Guille, had goalkeeper Jake Le Marchant to thank for keeping them in the game in the opening exchanges, as he made no fewer than half-a-dozen important interceptions in the first quarter of an hour to keep the score down to just 1-0 in that time when Casuals totally dominated.

Although TJ Ozanne went close with the first chance of the game in the first minute, Colombians could not get a foothold in the game and Le Marchant had pulled off saves from Nick Bachmann and Andy Good before five minutes had gone by.
