AN IMMENSELY proud La Grande Mare captain admitted that the enormity of his side's achievement in winning the Hampshire Sevens on Sunday 'had not really sunk in'.

Chris Walker's men came through a nerve-racking semi-final against Waterlooville before clinching the trophy with a convincing win over Ryde at Rowlands Castle at the weekend, becoming the first Guernsey club to win the competition for 15 years.

'A great weekend,' said Walker yesterday. 'Exhausting but worth it, of course.'

Once again the LGM captain was put through the proverbial ringer in the semi-final, which came down to the final rubber out on the course and that went to extra holes.
