WINNING their group could hold the key to Guernsey success at this weekend's British Open indoor cricket champtonships in Derby.
Captained by Lee Savident, the Sarnians are taking a strong 10-man squad to the three-day national tournament, which they begin on Friday against Derby Cobras.
That is one of three group games, the others coming against Risley and Nottingham, with the top two then progressing to the quarter-finals, but Savident explained the importance of top spot.
'If we come runners-up in the group, then we will almost certainly face Kwazulu Natal in the quarters,' he said.
'They are the favourites for the tournament and are basically the whole England team, who we lost to last year because we didn't quite top our group.'
