AFTER scoring 'the best goal' of his career, Andy Whalley and his Guernsey hockey team-mates look set for a home match in the third round of the EH Trophy.

Having disposed of Purley Walcountians 3-2 on Sunday in a see-saw match, the Sarnians have been drawn against Wisbech and, although the UK side have the chance to turn down the trip, early indications suggest they are keen to play in the island on 9 February.

The last-16 match was set up after Whalley, pictured, struck with 10 minutes to go in an encounter locked at 2-2, running from inside his own half, as the Guernsey player-coach himself recalled yesterday.

'I received the ball from Tony Veillard at right-back, turned my marker and just ran,' he said.

'A couple of our forwards made great runs to draw defenders out and make space for myself, but I must have beaten three or four players.'
