KRISTINA NEVES will not be allowed to defend her NINE Island Games swimming titles – because Guernsey swimming won't pick her.

The British international, pictured, who is one of the island's funded elite via the Sports Commission's Rising Stars programme, wants to swim in Bermuda next year, but because she did not initially commit, she has been told she has to stay at home.

Defending their decision, Chris Butt, president of the umbrella body Gasa, said: 'Kristina was given every opportunity to register her intent to take part in the Island Games some 12 months ago, and it was disappointing when the association received correspondence stating that she had no intention of going to Bermuda.

'It is, therefore, unfortunate that under the terms and conditions laid down by Gasa, that she became no longer eligible for consideration for team selection.'
