JORDAN TREBERT, one of Guernsey's most exciting young badminton prospects in many a year, has beaten the island champion on the way to his first senior island closed final.

Trebert, 15, defeated the number two seed Daniel Penney 24-22, 15-21, 21-16 in a cracking semi-final at the Rohais Hall.

The youngster (pictured) will now play multiple singles champion Paul Le Tocq in tomorrow night's finals, the top seed having eased through without dropping a set.

The women's tournament threw up no surprises and the final will see defending champion Charlotte Barnes attempt to win her third championship at the expense of former winner Gayle Lloyd.
