LOUISE PERRIO set a new island record over 10 miles as the new four-race Chertsey House Road Race Series got under way over the Imperial loop.

Perrio clocked 59min. 32sec. to trim 13sec. off her own record, but as hard as she tried she could not quite overhaul impressive newcomer Dave Parkin for second place.

However, at the very head of the very encouraging 72-strong field, Steve Dawes was in a class of his own and eased himself to victory by nearly five minutes. Nevertheless, Parkin produced a good run to lead a competitive push for the podium placings.

Ultimately, the 43-year-old from the Loftus and Whitby Club in Yorkshire and Humberside, had a minute in hand on Perrio, and he professed himself pleased with the run as he prepares for the Edinburgh Marathon.
