ALISON MERRIEN agonisingly lost the Fred Olsen Cruise Lines Women's World Matchplay bowls final at Potters Leisure Resort in Norfolk this afternoon 2-1 in a tiebreak.

The Guernsey star lost the first set 11-7 to English opponent Rebecca Field, who had opened up an 8-0 lead after just four ends.

However, Merrien hit back to win the second set 10-8 and force the best-of-three-ends tiebreak.

The Sarnian then took the opening end of the tiebreak, but Field responded to take the next two and with them the title.
