A 600-YARD stretch at the eastern end of the reservoir will be used for the island's new hill climb this June.

St Saviour's parish officials have given the Guernsey Kart and Motor Club the go ahead to run the event on Saturday 15 June, but it may be the only time admitted club president John Watson, pictured.

'At the moment it is only envisaged to be a one-off. This being a new course we just can't close it the day before and there will be a lot of work just to get it up and running on the day,' he said.

'If it's successful I'd like to see it happen every two years, but I don't want it to detract from our Petit Bot or Alderney events.'
