GUERNSEY certainly learnt their lesson from a year previously and thoroughly deserved to regain the women's inter-insular hockey shield on Saturday.

A goal in either half saw off Jersey at Footes Lane and the clean sheet, thanks to an impressive defensive display, was almost as pleasing for captain Emma Atkinson as picking up the trophy.

'We got our tactics spot on and the scoreline reflected that,' said the Guernsey skipper and goalkeeper, who hardly had a save to make all afternoon.

'I think I touched the ball once in the first half, a bit like our EH Vase games, but I do not mind that one bit as long as we get the result.'

There was a definite determination about Guernsey as they took to the pitch in front of their own crowd and all over the park they worked tirelessly to avoid another inter-insular disappointment.
