HELPING to create future local sporting success is at the forefront of Generali Worldwide's latest bursaries being offered to various Island Games sports.

The company has already financially backed four sports – basketball, archery, volleyball and golf – and is preparing to do the same for five more, with applications currently being accepted.

In the case of the quartet that have been supported so far, the funding offered through the bursaries comes in various guises, ranging from cost of coaching to that of required equipment.

Giorgio Daboni, the chief executive officer of Generali Worldwide, explained why his company are becoming so active in helping out local sport.

'We put forward the financial backing to the Guernsey Island Games Association and we leave it up to them to decide exactly where the bursaries go,' he said.
