AFTER his win at the Rance Emeraude one-day race, James McLaughlin made a fine start to the week-long Tour de Normandie before fading.
McLaughlin, riding for the French team Sojasun-Espoir, was a mere seven seconds off the winner in placing 16th of the 144 riders that started the 993km-long race.
He clocked 4min. 46sec, for the 3.4km-long prologue, but thereafter things have got tougher.
The Guernsey Commonwealth Games rider was down in 102nd place, 45sec. behind the winner, in stage one held over 201km.
