ON A bitterly cold start to the new hill climb season, it was unsurprisingly Darren Warwick who took the honours at Le Val des Terres on Easter Monday.

The island's fastest man on four wheels was more than a second slower than his best, but his time of 28.95sec. was still comfortably enough for the coveted FTD, with Nick Saunders the only other sub-30 man, with 29.74.

But as Warwick explained, it was not just the weather conditions that he believed contributed to a, relatively speaking, slow day of racing in the Guernsey Motor Cycle and Car Club meeting.

'The cold was an issue but that is something that changes each time, so is one of those things that we are used to, although it was the coldest racing day I can remember in 20 years,' he said.
