SHE wore so many layers of clothing she could hardly swing a club, but that did not deter Aimee Ponte from landing her first Hampshire county junior golf title.

After finishing runner-up last year, the Guernsey starlet took the county championship trophy with a round of 80 on a bitter morning at Liphook where the standard scratch score was 73.

The 17-year-old won by a single stroke from Laura Barrow of Brokenhurst Manor.

Normally, the championship is decided over 36 holes but the weather worsened sufficiently in the afternoon and play was abandoned during the second round, meaning the championship was decided solely on the morning scores.
