The captain saves the day in shoot-out thriller

CAPTAIN Emma Atkinson was the heroine yesterday as Guernsey's women's hockey team booked their place in the Investec EH Women's Vase final.

The home side won a dramatic penalty shoot-out in sudden death against Andover after 85min. playing time had been insufficient to separate the two teams.

They were still locked after the initial five flicks apiece, with both sides having converted three each, and the first attempts of sudden death were both successful too.

But after Debbie Hunter had found the backboard with Guernsey's seventh penalty, their captain and keeper came up trumps with the match-winning save.
