Dodd in form at right time

THE Channel Islands No. 1 Garry Dodd made the perfect preparation for the defence of his Island Men's Singles table tennis crown by cruising to victory in the Division One Championships with a straight-game win over Scott Romeril.

The five-time island champion will begin his fight for a sixth consecutive title on Saturday, when he is billed as the top seed and his form in the Divisional suggests that he is well prepared to accomplish the feat.

The annual first division championship is open to all Division One and Two players and this led to a reasonable entry of 29 players over eight groups.

The tournament drew some surprise results during the initial group stages, but seven of the eight seeded players managed to progress through to the knockout stages.
