Pipet taken all the way

THE opening night of the 2013 Island Table Tennis Championships went largely to seeding.

The Veterans Open Singles, which is open to all players above the age of 40, drew an entry of 24 players, including many of the island's former elite.

Sadly, though, the entry list was cut by one when fourth seed Dawn Morgan withdrew due to illness.

The completed scoresheets will show that top seed Jez Powell will meet second-seeded Mark Pipet on finals night a week today, but it was far from easy for both men.

Powell had a tough quarter-final clash against Tim Le Page, the number eight seed.
