THE third element of the summer motorsport season got under way with a new feature on Saturday.

Following on from hill climbs and sprints, the first of 10 sandracing meetings at Vazon had the usual mix of racing cars, saloons, sliders, juniors and cadets on the traditional oval courses, but also saw the introduction of a motocross class.

After some hard work by the organisers, the new class was held over a course that turned sharp left just after the startline into the infield.

This led to another sharp left followed almost immediately by a 2ft high jump off a manmade ramp into a right-hander that took the riders back onto the back straight just prior to the wet bend.

The ramp was adjusted as the meeting progressed, but further work will have to be done on it before the next meeting as many of the riders were passing it because it was too short and made landing difficult as the bikes' suspension was not able to take the forces being applied.
