Cullen proves more than an adequate replacement

THE old saying that less is more held true at the last Dinner Boxing Show of the winter on Friday night.

There were just six bouts instead of the scheduled 11 and each of them was a cracker.

Replenished with two Alderney lads, the home team ran out 4-2 winners over Steve Walshaw's Manchester Select, but the evening ended with a thorough beating of Commonwealth Games hopeful James Woolnough.

The tough Guernsey middleweight never got to fight the newly-crowned English ABA champion Scott Fitzgerald, but perhaps that was just as well.

His replacement, Jack Cullen, was a superb stand-in and gave the local favourite something of a pasting over three exhausting three-minute rounds.
