OPTIMISTS got off the mark in Evening League Division One in some style with a brisk seven-wicket victory over Griffins at KGV.

Chris van Vliet's side lost heavily to St Pierre in their season opener, but were always on course to turn the tables in this tie after restricting Griffins to just 81 from their 16 overs.

Andy Le Page was the Optimists star with the ball by taking four wickets for just 18 in his four-over spell, coming on first change.

His haul included the key wickets of Griffins captain Wayne Martel, Jim Cobb and Damien Wallen.

Indeed, it was number eight Rob Thomson who top-scored with 16 not out, one of only three batters to reach double figures in a below-par showing.
