THE Guernsey Velo Club provided the traditional start to a day of sport on Liberation Day with a closely contested six laps around the L'Eree circuit.
Unlike the majority of the club's races, the Blix Liberation Day Road Race followed a more traditional mass start scratch race format with all competitors lining up together rather than being raced in divisions based on ability.
The main feature of the circuit was the demanding Pleinmont Hill and with the first of six ascents only a matter of seconds after the start, most expected an early split with the strongest riders taking the initiative on the climb.
However, this year a very friendly early pace was set by Leon Ogier and Josh Gosselin allowing the peloton to stay together over the first climb.
