DAVID NICOLLE held his nerve to knock Steve Mahy out of the Intertrust Island Men's Championship last night.
The L'Ancresse man was seeded to reach the semi-finals, but when the draw threw up a match against another island regular, he knew he was going to have his work cut out.
Mahy, who shot a 67 in competition on Saturday, was on top in the early stages, with a par on the seventh enough to put him three up.
Nicolle, though, has bags of experience and plenty of resolve. He used both to great effect around the turn with a remarkable run of winning five holes on the trot to take a two-up lead down the 14th.
