JAMES HAMON yesterday became one of the youngest ever winners of the Island Men's Championship.
The reigning CI junior champion, who turns 18 on 1 July, beat Dave Jeffery of La Grande Mare 2 and 1 at L'Ancresse links on a historic day when the 36-hole final was contested between two players from outside of both the Royal Guernsey and L'Ancresse clubs for the first time.
Hamon did not trail throughout the day, but he saw a five-up lead through 24 holes cut to just one after 30 by his dogged 33-year-old opponent.
However, the teenager continued to play some outstanding golf to reach the 35th hole dormy and Jeffery offered his hand in congratulation on that green when he saw his birdie putt pass by the high-side of the hole.
