CLAIMING his first island junior title is just one step towards Jeremy Nicolle's ultimate ambition of playing for the full Guernsey team.

The Guernsey Junior member beat his club captain, Fergus Moriarty, 7 and 5 in the 36-hole final at L'Ancresse with a typically solid display as he lived up to his billing as favourite.

'It was tough for the first 12 holes. We started with 12 straight halves,' said Nicolle, who turned 17 yesterday.

'Then I won 13 with a par to go one up and I was always ahead in the match after that.'

Nicolle was two up at lunch and then pressed home his advantage in the afternoon round to wrap up victory on the 13th green, the final's 31st hole.
