Ponte on verge of the title

AIMEE PONTE was yesterday afternoon standing on the verge of her first senior Hampshire county title.

The 17-year-old swept into the final at the Royal Winchester with an ultimately comfortable 5 and 3 victory over Georgina Mundy, of Corhampton, a player who had topped the 36 holes strokeplay qualifying.

After four days of glorious weather the semi-finals were played in rain, sometimes very heavy. Ponte's opponent in the final is Kerry Smith of Waterlooville.
