JAYNE CARTER'S international England Masters career is going from strength to strength.

The 55-year-old teacher, who has lived in Guernsey for the past 23 years and plays locally for Amazons, was selected for her country at over-55s level back in March.

That was ahead of a triangular tournament in France and she played a big part in four wins out of four in Lille, beating the Netherlands 5-0 twice and a joint team of French and Italians 7-0 and 5-0.

'I was on the bench for the first half of the first game, which was actually good so I could watch and observe expectations,' said Carter. 'I felt quite calm until I walked onto the pitch and then was very nervous, but as I was playing left forward and we were a much stronger team I had quite a lot of contact with the ball. That settled my game and I managed to score, which was amazing.'

Carter is in the squad for a Home Internationals tournament in Dublin this coming weekend.
