JAMES HAMON holed a monster 30-footer on the last for a birdie two to put him in good shape to win his first 72-hole scratch title yesterday.

On the final day of the prestigious Credit Suisse and UV Trophy event, the biggest strokeplay major of the year, Hamon set the target for the likes of Bobby Eggo to beat with a level par 70.

Hamon's week has been one of frustration on the greens, but he came good on the inward half yesterday.

First he hit a superb drive across the road-hole 13th to within three feet and holed the putt for an eagle two.

He was to bogey the last but then slotted home that two on the 18th to put the heat on Eggo, who was yet to go out.
