THE morning 70s posted by James Hamon and Ian Thomas proved too big a hurdle for their rivals to overcome on the final day of the 72-hole tournament.

Hamon, the island champion, ultimately finished three clear of the Eggo brothers in the chase for the Credit Suisse Trophy off scratch, while Thomas, the former island player, came home six clear in the handicap section for the UV Trophy.

Hamon's last day level-par 70 was bettered only by Andy Eggo's 69, but he had left himself too much to do going into the last round.

Brother Bobby, who had led all week, needed his own 70 to stay clear of the youngster, but his second successive 74 saw him fall back to finish third.
