Solid Ponte happy with her display at Grouville

A HECTIC schedule did not stop Aimee Ponte turning on the style after lunch to retain her Channel Islands women's title at Grouville on Sunday.

Jersey champion Jenny Deeley was all square with the 17-year-old Guernsey star after 18 holes before the Sarnian, who spent last week representing Hampshire in South Region County Match Week, pulled away during the afternoon round to win 4 and 3.

'You have to play solidly against a player like Jenny and thankfully I did,' said Ponte.

'Jenny doesn't make many mistakes, it was a really good game and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

'Although I had several birdies this morning, I felt I definitely played a lot better this afternoon. I didn't do anything drastically wrong so I was pleased overall.'
