DEFENCE will be key for Guernsey's women volleyball players if they are to achieve their lofty aim of coming home with a medal from Bermuda.

At the last Island Games two years ago, the Sarnian women finished ninth of the 13 teams on show, which included wins over Jersey and Gotland.

This time, though, they will have to finish in the top two of a tough-looking group with the Faroe Islands, Aland and Greenland, who beat Guernsey in three tight sets in 2011.

However, despite the Faroes being reigning champions and Aland also being a traditional powerhouse, Sarnian coach Ross Gledhill is in buoyant mood.
