SARAH MERCIER has one medal around her neck – and is now targeting another.

The Sarnian middle distance star fought hard and got the just deserts of an excellent silver medal behind defending champion Eilidh Mackenzie, of the Western Isles, in an enthralling 1,500m in Bermuda's National Stadium last night.

'I'm really pleased,' said Mercier as she left the track.

'I'm running 5,000 next and hoping for another medal. I will certainly give it a go. Hopefully by tomorrow I will have recovered from this.'

This was an intriguing battle with Mercier and young Sarnian Katie Rowe in the thick of it right from the start.
