THE Guernsey girls have had one party and could be on the verge of another.

The first took the form of a beach barbecue and sing-song at the weekend, but now Aimee Ponte, Abigail Howard, Jan Chamberlain and Mandy Webber are sitting pretty at the top of the leaderboard in the women's team golf event at the NatWest Island Games with one round to go.

They lead Gotland by five shots with the Isle of Wight a further five back in third going into the final day of four at the renowned Port Royal Golf Club, the home of the PGA's Grand Slam of Golf.

While all of the Guernsey quartet have performed admirably, unsurprisingly it is Ponte who is leading the way and sitting second in the individual competition having carded the best round of the day yesterday, a 77, to trail Gotland star Lina Billing by six.

Howard is an excellent fifth while Chamberlain lies 13th and Webber 25th of the 31 golfers remaining.
