Goodyear targets the unimaginable

JOS GOODYEAR wishes he could carry our hill around with him.

And as he gladly accepted the plaudits for clawing back the outright record for Le Val des Terres, having had his wrenched from him an hour earlier by Scott Moran, Goodyear made a promise which, if it comes off, will be simply unbelievable.

'Give me good weather and I'll give you a 26,' said the man of the moment, who for the second year in succession came and conquered the 'Val Ds' in record-breaking style.

Forty years ago, when the 'national' first came to the island, Chris Cramer had the locals purring with a new record of 33.60.

Bit by bit, second by second, the hill mark has come down, but nobody could ever imagine that it would dip to as low as 27.17 and now Goodyear has his eyes on the unimaginable.
