AIMEE PONTE is one of more than 100 of the country's top teenage golfers who are competing at this week's English Girls' Open Amateur Championship.
The 72-hole event, which will start today at Oake Manor Golf Club near Taunton, has attracted players from all over England, including Curits Cup player Bronte Law of Cheshire, who is taking one last tilt at this title before leaving the junior ranks at the end of the season. Last year, she was third behind winner Emily Taylor, who now plays on the Ladies European Tour.
A stellar field also includes the Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship winner Olivia Winning and fellow girl internationals Alice Hewson and Sophie Lamb, who recently helped England to fourth place in the European Team Championship in Sweden.
Ponte, pictured, the Hampshire girls' and women's champion, will play her first two rounds alongside Emily Coleman of Trentham GC and Dulcie Sverdloff from Garon Park GC.
