THE odds are now stacked against Nic Pothas's U19s side avoiding the wooden spoon after an agonising one-wicket defeat by Jersey in Utrecht on Saturday.

And Pothas, pictured, the Guernsey head coach and director of cricket, is not happy.

'As soon as the pressure and intensity goes up in a game, we go to pieces,' he fumed after his side batted themselves into a strong position, had the Caesareans on the ropes – and then allowed them back into the match.

'We are getting ourselves into

positions where the teams around the world would, 90% of the time, walk the game comfortably.'

Jersey won the toss and elected to field first on a much cooler day than the tournament opening day when temperatures had reached 35C.
